Some instructors require proctored exams for online courses. Students should check the course syllabus for this information. If taking an exam at Collin College’s onsite testing centers creates a geographical hardship, the student should contact his or her instructor. It may be possible to have the exam administered through an approved remote testing center outside of the geographic area during the required exam period. This center must be verified, in advance, by the Online Student Support Center.
Please follow the procedures below:
Please note: Exam proctors must not have any family or personal relationship with the students.
Procedures for Arranging an Individual Proctored Exam (for Students):
Students who need to make individual arrangements for a proctored exam using a remote testing service must follow these procedures:
- Find an approved testing service that is willing to proctor your exam.
- Inform the course instructor and the Online Student Support Center (distance_learning@ccccd.edu) that a proctored exam will be arranged with a remote testing center. Do this before the date specified in the course syllabus to allow enough time for verification and for the remote testing center to receive the exam (preferably two weeks). The Online Student Support Center will determine and inform the student as to the acceptability of the remote testing site.
- Download and complete the Proctored Exam Form. Please complete all information in the required fields. Please check the exact exam dates specified in each course syllabus. Please use one form per course. Both the student and the proctor must complete and sign the form.
- The completed and signed exam form must be mailed or faxed back to the Online Student Support Center before the deadline specified in each course syllabus (preferably two weeks). The address and fax number can be found on the form.
- After receiving the proctored exam form, the Online Student Support Center will verify the remote testing center. Upon verification, the Online Student Support Center will email or mail the exam and any faculty instructions. The Online Student Support Center will also email the student indicating the selected remote testing site has been verified and exams sent.
- Students are responsible for scheduling the exam with the exam proctor and paying all applicable proctoring fees, including any mailing fees for the return of the exam. Students are also responsible to checking with the remote testing site to ensure the exam has arrived.
- If an exam requires a "Scantron Answer Form" for answering questions, students should acquire it beforehand and bring it to the exam site. Please check with your instructor to verify the type of Scantron form accepted.
- Take the exam as scheduled (within the required exam time window) at the testing location under the supervision of the proctor. The student will need to show a photo ID to the proctor.
- Upon exam completion, the proctor must mail the exam back to the location indicated on the Faculty Instructions form immediately. The mailing address is included in the form.
Procedures for Arranging an Individual Proctored Exam (for Faculty):
- Download and complete the Faculty Instructions Form. Please complete all information in the required fields. Please check the exact exam dates specified in each course syllabus. Please use one form per course. Please include any specific instructions for the proctor as well as the return address for completed exams.
- Provide the Online Student Support Center with a PDF version of your electronic exams via email. Send complete copies of paper-based exams via inter-office mail or drop them off at the Online Student Support Center.
Academic Honesty
Academic Ethics: The College District may initiate disciplinary proceedings against a student accused of scholastic dishonesty. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, statements, acts, or omissions related to applications for enrollment or the award of a degree, and/or the submission as one’s own work material that is not one’s own. Scholastic dishonesty may involve, but is not limited to, one or more of the following acts: cheating, plagiarism, collusion, use of annotated texts or teacher’s editions, and/or falsifying academic records.
Plagiarism is the use of an author’s words or ideas as if they were one’s own without giving credit to the source, including, but not limited to, failure to acknowledge a direct quotation.
Cheating is the willful giving or receiving of information in an unauthorized manner during an examination, illicitly obtaining examination questions in advance, copying computer or
Internet files, using someone else’s work for the assignments as if it were one’s own, or any other dishonest means of attempting to fulfill the requirements of a course.
Collusion is intentionally aiding or attempting to aid another in an act of scholastic dishonesty, including but not limited to, providing a paper or project to another student; providing an inappropriate level of assistance; communicating answers to a classmate during an examination; removing tests or answer sheets from a test site, and allowing a classmate to copy answers.
If a student has any question regarding remote proctored exams, please email them to: distance_learning@ccccd.edu. |
